Turbo-Vent Troubleshooting

Every so often we get a customer who's installed their Fiamma Turbo-vent but it doesn't turn on when they think it should. For anyone having a little trouble installing a Turbo-Vent we've put together a trouble shooter for a few basic things to check to get everything working.

This guide applies to Fiamma Turbo-vent 40 and Turbo-vent 40 Premium.

The Basics

It should be obvious, but first of all when installing your Turbo-vent make sure you've read and actually follow the instructions. If there is something in the instructions you're not clear on give us a ring or send an email before starting installation to make sure you know what you need to do and have all the tools and parts you need to complete the job.

We'd also recommend testing your Turbo-vent before bonding it to your roof by connecting your Turbo-vent to your electrical supply before fitting it to your vehicle roof. This makes it easier to troubleshoot any issues and makes sure everything works before you seal the unit in place.

Also, please be aware that the Turbo-vent is a 12V appliance. Make sure you're connecting it to a 12V system or power source. Do NOT connect the Turbo-vent to 230V mains. It seems obvious but we have had customers connect Turbo-vents to 230V Mains. It doesn't usually end well for the Turbo-vent.

Simple checks

First of all, if you didn't purchase your Turbo-Vent from AgentFiamma, contact your supplying dealer for support. If you've bought from another dealer and you follow these steps you may void your warranty and they may refuse to help you.

If you've bought from AgentFiamma and are confident you can carry out these tests properly please proceed. If you're not confident, or if our instructions aren't clear, please contact us before proceeding for advice.

If, once you've installed your Turbo-vent, you find it the fan doesn't spin when you expect it to, the first thing to check is the green LED on the control panel. Is this on?

Scroll down to the correct section below depending whether the LED comes on or not.

No, Turbo-Vent LED doesn't come on

Follow the steps to identify and fix the issue.

  1. Turn the speed control up Turn the speed control knob clockwise. Does the Green LED come on? If not go to step 2
  2. Check your battery - If you have a multi meter check your battery voltage. If you don't have a multi meter see if other 12V appliances work. If your battery voltage is below 12.4V or other appliances don't work your battery might need charging. Re-charge your battery. Does the Green LED come on? If not go to step 3
  3. Check the fuse - Check the fuse on the Turbo-vent circuit. If it's blown replace the fuse. Does the Green LED come on? If not go to step 4
  4. Check Turbo-vent input voltage - You'll need a multi-meter for this one. Test the voltage at the end of the cable where it connects to the Turbo-Vent. If your battery voltage is OK but the voltage on the cable where it connects to the Turbo-Vent is lower you have voltage drop on your circuit. Check for loose connections between your battery and the Turbo-Vent. and make sure your cable diameter is suitable for the current and length of cable. If your cable voltage is above 11.5V go to step 5
  5. Check Turbo-vent connection - Test the voltage across the soldered pins marked "+" and "-" on the Turbo-vent circuit board. This should be the same as you just measured at the end of your cable. If it's not, this means the cable is not properly inserted into the connections on the Turbo-Vent. Make sure to press in the button on the underside of the circuit board and fully push your cable ends into their connections.

If you complete the tests above and fix any issues the green LED should now light up when the speed control is turned up. If it does, and your Turbo-vent still isn't working, move onto the next section. If the green LED still doesn't light up email sales@agentfiamma.co.uk or give us a call on 0161 902 3025 for further help

Yes, Turbo-Vent LED lights up

If the green LED on your Turbo-vent lights up but the fan still doesn't spin try the following steps to find and fix the issue.

  1. Speed Control - Turn the speed control knob on the Turbo-Vent all the way to the fastest setting. Does the fan spin? If not, leave the speed control at maximum and move to step 2.
  2. Check the thermostat - Turn the thermostat control all the way up to the hottest setting. Then slowly turn the thermostat all the way down to the coldest setting. If your fan began to spin at any point this means your Turbo-vent is working. You just need to set the Thermostat to your desired temperature and the fan will turn on automatically. If the fan didn't spin go to step 3.
  3. Test the fan - Try connecting the white wires from the Turbo-vent fan, directly to your power feed cable instead of going via the circuit boards. This tests the fan itself. Keep your fingers clear as the fan will spin quickly. If the fan spins when connected directly to the power supply, reconnect the fan and power cables to the circuit board and go to step 4
  4. Test the output connection - With the input and output cables reconnected to the circuit board, check the voltage across the "M1" and "M2" soldered pins on the circuit board.
    1. If the fan worked in step 2, and you get between 2.5V and 8V between the "M1" and "M2" pins the fan will spin.
    2. If you measure 11.5V or above between the "M1" and "M2" pins this means the cable to the fan is not properly inserted into the connections on the circuit board. Make sure to press the buttons on the underside of the circuit board and securely push the connections to the fan into the circuit board.
    3. If you measure 0V between the "M1" and "M2" pins, the connections for the supply cable are not inserted correctly. Make sure to press the buttons on the underside of the circuit board and securely push the connections to the power supply into the circuit board
