Which Fiamma Awning for VW T5/T6 Transporter?

When it comes to advice on choosing a Fiamma Awning, the VW T5 Transporter is one of the vans we get asked about most often. With several different factory versions it can be difficult to work out which Fiamma awning will fit and what kit you need to do it. As one of the most popular vans in this market the VW T5 is also one of the most commonly modified with an array of aftermarket customisations and accessories available to further complicate the issue.

Fiamma themselves don’t help matters either. For instance the “Fiamma F45 S 260 Transporter” awning does not fit the standard equipped Transporter. And the fitting kit “Kit VW T5 Transporter-Multivan” doesn’t fit the Multivan. Helpful, eh?

About this guide

In order to try and clear things up a little, and because the product names can be a little confusing, this guide will give you pictures to compare to your van, and part numbers (rather than product names) so you can be sure to order the right thing.

Look at each section of the guide and look for one which matches your van. Then apply some sense and look for modifications, aftermarket kit, obstructions, vehicle damage or anything else which might cause the suggested kit not to work with your particular van. Because there are so many versions, aftermarket conversions and modifications available for the VW T5 we can’t possibly account for them all in this guide. When it comes to choosing a Fiamma awning for your VW T5 there are 3 questions to answer to work out what you need.

Look through each of the section of the guide for one that matches your van. Each section will then tell you which awnings you can fit, give you your size options and tell you which fitting kit is needed.

VW T5 Transporter – Standard Roof

For the standard VW T5 Transporter without the optional Multivan roof rail, you should find bolt holes on the gulley of the roof just inward from the roof edge. These are originally intended as a mounting point for a roof rack but, if not used for this, can be used to fit Fiamma awning brackets.

Which Fiamma awning for VW T5 Transporter

For VW Transporter with standard roof where you can use the roof rack mounting points in the roof gulley you can fit the Fiamma F45 S awning.

What Length?

• For standard wheelbase Transporter fit the Fiamma F45 S 260.
• For long wheelbase Transporter fit Fiamma F45 S 300.

VW T5 Multivan – with Rail

The VW Multivan has a rail fitted into the gulley just in from the edge of the roof and a Fiamma awning can be fitted to this. This rail is standard equipment on the Multivan and an option of the Transporter.

Which awning for VW T5 with Multivan Rail

If your van is fitted with this rail you can fit either a Fiamma F35 Pro, or Fiamma F45 S awning. The F35 Pro is a cheaper, lighter sun canopy which you unroll manually from its case. The F45 S is a more robust, wind-out awning. There is an optional Fiamma Privacy Room available for the F45 S multivan awnings.

Which Fitting Kit?

Fitting kit required is Kit F35 VW T5 Multivan-Transporter 98655-747

VW T5 with Multivan Rail – Fiamma F45 S awning

*Once again, please ignore the fact that Fiamma have opted to call this F45 S Transporter. It does not fit the standard spec Transporter. It only fits if the optional Multivan roof rail is fitted as shown in the picture.

Which Fitting Kit?

The correct fitting kit is included with the F45 S Multivan awnings

VW T5 California

For vans fitted with both VW’s own pop-up roof and the VW California rail. There will be blocks/mouldings with bolt mounting points near the base of the roof scissor brackets which can be seen when the pop roof is raised.

Which Fiamma awning for VW T5 California

The T5 California can be fitted with either a Fiamma F35 Pro or a Fiamma F45 S awning. The F35 Pro is a cheaper, lighter sun canopy which you unroll manually from its case. The F45 S is a more robust, wind-out awning. There is an optional Fiamma Privacy Room available for the F45 S California awnings.

For this vehicle the above F45 S awning is supplied by Fiamma with the fitting kit for the California included.

VW T5 Transporter – High Roof

For Transporter vans fitted with the VW factory high top roof, this obviously covers the fixing points you would usually use to fit a Fiamma awning. You can still fit a Fiamma awning using the Fiamma Fibreglass Roof kit which sticks to the side of the raised roof section.

Which Fiamma awning for VW T5 Transporter High Roof

The High Top T5 Transporter can be fitted with a Fiamma F45 S awning.

What Length?

• For standard wheelbase Transporter fit the Fiamma F45 S 260.
• For long wheelbase Transporter fit Fiamma F45 S 300.

Which Fitting Kit?

For VW Transporter T5 High Roof fixing kit required for F45 S awning is Kit Fibreglass Roof 98655-744. For F45 S 300 2 x fitting kits are required.

VW T5 Transporter with Aftermarket Pop-up Roof

Unfortunately there are too many different aftermarket roofs available for the VW T5 for Fiamma to be able to produce a set of brackets for them all. Which Fiamma awnings you can fit and how you attach them depends on which parts of your van roof you have access to.

If you have a non-original pop-up roof on your T5 and want to fit a Fiamma awning, you should first check if the standard Transporter bracket can be fitted. The Transporter bracket will only fit if your roof and its hinges don't fold within the roof gulley above the roof rack bolt mounting points, and you don't already have an aftermarket multi-rail fitted.

If you can't use the standard Transporter bracket, fitting an aftermarket multi-rail is usually the easiest way to allow fitting of a Fiamma awning. See the guide for after-market multi-rails below.

VW T5 Transporter - Aftermarket Rail

There are a few aftermarket multi-rails available for the T5 Transporter, the most common of which are the Reimo Multi Rail and Brandrup Top-Rail. Standard Fiamma fitting kits are available for both of these rails and although both require drilling the van roof, the brackets fit to the rail and the roof edge so shouldn't interfere with an aftermarket pop-up roof.

If you have an aftermarket roof fitted to your T5 which stops you accessing the bolt mount points in the roof gulley, fitting one of these multi-rails and the appropriate Fiamma bracket is often the best way to allow fitting of a Fiamma Awning.

For VW Transporter T5 with Reimo Multi Rail you can fit Fiamma F45 S awning.

What Length?

• For standard wheelbase Transporter fit the Fiamma F45 S 260.
• For long wheelbase Transporter fit Fiamma F45 S 300.

Which Fiamma awning for VW T5 Transporter with Brandrup Rail

If your van is fitted with this rail you can fit either a Fiamma F35 Pro, or Fiamma F45 S awning. The F35 Pro is a cheaper, lighter sun canopy which you unroll manually from its case. The F45 S is a more robust, wind-out awning. There is an optional Fiamma Privacy Room available for the F45 S multivan awnings.

VW T5 Transporter with Roof Bars

For T5 Transporter with roof bars fitted you can fit either F45 or F35 awning. The choice of awning is up to you. For part numbers for the awnings please refer to the tables above for VW T5 with Brandrup rail.

What Length

For standard wheelbase T5 fit either F45 S 260 or F35 Pro 250 awning

For long wheelbase T5 fit either F45 S 300 or F35 Pro 300 awning
